Sofa and mattress removal

Sofas, armchairs, mattresses and single furniture items collected from inside the property across South Wales, not just from the kerb.

100% recommended - 46 reviews Licensed carrier Same-day where possible Fixed price, no call-out fee

The two things people most often cannot shift on their own, and the two things a skip firm will not let you put in a skip. We take both, and we take them from wherever they are – upstairs, through a narrow hall, out of a first-floor flat.

Prices

Single items are priced individually – send a photo and you will have a figure back the same day. Two or more together almost always works out cheaper as one small load, so send the lot in one picture.

Why a sofa cannot go in a skip

This catches people out constantly, and it is not the skip company being awkward.

Upholstered domestic seating – sofas, armchairs, futons, sofa beds, dining chairs with padded seats, beanbags – can contain persistent organic pollutants in the foam and textiles. POPs are banned from landfill and have to be kept separate from other waste and handled through the correct route.

The practical effect is that these items have to travel separately and be processed separately. A skip full of mixed waste with a sofa in it is a problem at the gate, which is why skip firms exclude them outright. We handle them the way the rules require, which is part of what you are paying for.

Mattresses

Mattresses are bulky, awkward and almost impossible to get into a normal car. They are also highly recyclable – the springs, foam and textiles can all be separated and reused – so they should not simply be landfilled. We send them for recycling.

One practical note: if a mattress has been left outside in the rain it will double in weight and we may not be able to recycle it. If you are clearing one out, keep it indoors or covered until we get there.

We take it from inside

This is the real difference between us and a council bulky collection. Every council in this area – Caerphilly, Cardiff, Newport, the Vale – will only take what you have already carried out to the kerb. If you cannot get a three-seater down a flight of stairs on your own, that service is no use to you.

We come in, take the doors off if we have to, and carry it out. Same price either way.

If it is still usable

If your sofa or mattress is clean, undamaged and still has its fire label attached, please consider a local reuse charity before you pay anyone to take it away. Several operate across Caerphilly, Cardiff and Newport and many will collect for free. We would far rather tell you that than charge you for taking away something somebody else could have used. If it has no fire label, is stained or is damaged, they will not be able to take it – and that is where we come in.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

How much does it cost to get rid of a sofa?

Single items are priced individually - send a photo and we will give you a figure the same day. It is taken from inside the property rather than the kerb, and if you have got more than one item it usually works out cheaper as a single small load, so send the lot in one picture.

Why will a skip company not take my sofa?

Because upholstered seating can contain persistent organic pollutants in the foam and fabric. POPs are banned from landfill and must be kept separate from mixed waste, so a sofa in a general skip creates a problem at the disposal site. We handle them through the correct separate route.

Do you take mattresses?

Yes, any size. We send them for recycling - the springs, foam and textiles are all separable. Keep it dry until we arrive if you can; a soaked mattress weighs a great deal more and often cannot be recycled.

Will you carry it downstairs for me?

Yes, and there is no extra charge for it. That is the main thing that separates us from the council collection, which only takes what you have already got to the kerb.

Can I get a sofa collected for free?

If it is clean, undamaged and still has its fire label, a local reuse charity may well collect it free - several operate across Caerphilly, Cardiff and Newport. Try that first. Without a fire label, or if it is stained or damaged, they cannot take it and that is when you need us.

Need it gone? We will take it.
